After spending more than a decade in advertising in both NYC and Los Angeles, Meredith turned her passion for marketing to retail marketing and merchandising. Meredith and her husband Michael purchased and recreated the world-famous historic Fair Oaks Pharmacy in 1989 and subsequently sold it in 2005. Meredith then established Poker Chip Girl, a line of vintage poker chip jewelry and fashion accessories which she sold in casinos and boutiques throughout the globe. Simultaneously, Meredith was a retail marketing consultant for the California Gift Show® (then owned by dmgworld media and managed by GLM), several specialty retailers and eCommerce sites.
In 2010 Meredith and Michael bought Webster’s Community Pharmacy in Altadena, CA. As with The Fair Oaks Pharmacy, their goal was to restore and revitalize this neighborhood independent full-service prescription pharmacy to its landmark status. Hard–to-find retro toys, gifts, greeting cards, jewelry, fashion accessories, and books also line the historic shelves. In 2014, Meredith expanded her footprint in Altadena and opened Meredith M, a trend-friendly women’s apparel and fashion accessories boutique that also features a selection of gifts and clothing for babies and toddlers. In 2015, Michael and Meredith purchased, remodeled and now operate Michael’s Pharmacy, a state of the art pharmacy & gift boutique in neighboring Pasadena, CA.
Giving back to the community with her time and talent is of equal importance to Meredith. She served on the Chamber of Commerce in South Pasadena; was a long time board member of the Pasadena Humane Society, as well as the Vice President, President and now President Emeritus of the Altadena Chamber of Commerce. In 2015, Meredith was nominated and elected to the Collaborate Pasadena Leadership Council where she contributes as a business and marketing expert.
Born and raised in England Josephine has lived in the States for 38 years, starting her amazing pedigree and meteoric rise in the retail world, in 1982. She began in the executive training program, for Carter Hawley Hale/Broadway division, and worked her way up through the ranks into becoming store General Manger.
Next was General Manager for Brooks Brothers, being their first female General Manager of their San Francisco flagship store, and then later advancing to district manager for the Southern California region. From there she joined I Magnin’s, asGeneral Manager of the San Diego store, until the closing of the company, which was followed by a career move at Saks Fifth Avenue as General Manager of the Palm Springs store, which included developing and opening their store in Palm Desert.Her final position with Saks Fifth Avenue was as the General Manager and VP of the South Coast Plaza store, until leaving to start her own business.
Josephine opened, Fleur De Lys, a specialty home, gift and lifestyle store, in September of 2004, starting with a 1,400 sq. ft. space, which in 2008 expanded to 3,000 sq. ft., with current sales volume of $1.5 million.
